Tabwell is a Chrome extension that helps you save and restore browser sessions.

What the extension stores in Chrome

Tabwell stores snapshots, tab URLs and titles, tab-group details, the search index, license state, and operational flags locally in your Chrome profile using IndexedDB and chrome.storage.local. Your preferences are stored with chrome.storage.sync; if Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome may sync those preferences between your signed-in Chrome installations. Tabwell does not send snapshot contents to its own servers or to Chrome Sync.

What is transmitted and why

We do not operate servers that receive your tab URLs, tab titles, snapshots, or search index. We do not use behavioral or usage analytics, and we do not use cookies in the extension. The only optional telemetry path is the crash diagnostics described below.

Paid upgrades are processed by Polar. When you purchase or validate Pro, Polar and Tabwell's billing service process the information needed to activate and manage the purchase: license key, checkout and order identifiers, one-time activation token, product id, customer id, receipt email, license status, and related purchase metadata. Polar processes payment details; Tabwell does not receive or store your card number. The extension sends license or checkout activation information only when you start a purchase or activate a license. Billing systems do not receive your tab URLs, tab titles, snapshots, or search index.

To show the checkout currency for your region, Tabwell's billing endpoint processes your connection IP address and may send it over HTTPS to a geolocation provider to resolve a country or currency. The IP address is also forwarded to Polar when you start checkout and is used temporarily for rate limiting and security. Tabwell does not write the IP address to its billing database. As with most internet services, infrastructure access logs may contain an IP address and request metadata for a limited period for security and operations.

Crash diagnostics

If you opt in to crash diagnostics (off by default), redacted error events may be sent to Hawk.so. You can disable diagnostics again at any time. These events may contain:

Before transmission, Tabwell removes tab URLs, tab titles, navigation breadcrumbs, and stack-frame arguments from diagnostic events. Automatic console capture and breadcrumb collection are disabled. Crash diagnostics are used only to investigate and fix errors; they are not used to analyze product usage or browsing behavior.

Service providers and disclosure

We share data only with service providers needed for the functions described above: Polar for checkout and license validation, Tabwell's billing infrastructure for activation and purchase management, Hawk.so for diagnostics you explicitly enable, and hosting/infrastructure providers that operate those services. We do not sell user data, use it for advertising, transfer it for creditworthiness or lending decisions, or use it for unrelated purposes.

Security and retention

Transmissions to Polar, Tabwell billing, and Hawk.so use HTTPS or another modern encrypted transport. Local snapshots remain until you delete them, remove the extension, or Tabwell applies the retention limit for your plan: automatic snapshots are rotated to your configured limit, and the Free plan keeps at most five snapshots in total and one automatic snapshot. Pending checkout activation data expires after 48 hours. Tabwell retains only identifier-only webhook audit records, not raw Polar webhook payloads, and deletes those audit records after 90 days. Billing, license, infrastructure-log, and diagnostic records are otherwise retained only as long as needed to provide the requested service, handle refunds and support, meet security needs, and satisfy applicable accounting or legal obligations.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Tabwell's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use such information only to provide or improve Tabwell's disclosed session-management features, related security, and reliability; we do not use it for personalized advertising or allow human access except with explicit consent, for security, to comply with law, or after aggregation and anonymization for internal operations.
